is an artists’ residency
Fritz is a manor house within a 4 hectare park at the edge of Scharpzow, a 100-person village in northern Germany. The name honors socialist novelist Fritz Reuter, who often wrote here in the 19th century, alongside his circle of dissident writers and artists.
Fritz will operate as an open residency for artists, writers, musicians, dancers, thinkers and the like.
It will offer 10 individual studios and suites, two family/collective apartments, two libraries, a body space, an events space, and 200sqm of workshops, as well as shared cooking and eating facilities.
Inspired by the Performing Arts Forum in France, Fritz will be application-free and as self-reliant as possible to maximise affordability and a sense of stewardship and collective engagement among residents and with the village.
The people behind this are Nina Hollensteiner and Vincenzo Latronico.
Fritz will open to the public in 2021, with limited space available already in the second half of 2020, while we will still be renovating.
Are you interested in helping make this happen? We are always looking for people willing to lend a hand, both experienced or curious to learn. Whether in actual renovation, furniture-building or gardening, from the summer on there will be place.
We will also be organising workshops on specific techniques we are learning - one on clay and straw plastering will be held in the summer.
